This virus was discovered in 1954. But recently, this virus has been diagnosed in Brazil and also in many other countries of South America.
The symptoms are mild fever, conjunctivitis, headache, joint pain and a rash. There is no vaccine, or drug treatments against this virus. The patient must stay in bed and drink a lot of water. Pregnant women have to be careful because this virus can develop in the womb microcephaly on the baby, so that the new-born has an abnormally small head. The brain cannot work and develop properly. And the baby can die if the brain is underdeveloped . It’s all the more alarming that thousands of babies have already been infected by Zika.
Mosquitoes bear the virus. These insects transmit the virus by stinging.
In Brazil, the number of microcephalies has risen since 2015. The virus Zika is thought to be the reason of this sudden rise by the world health organization. The global public health emergency had been declared for this virus.
Some are have declared a state of emergency like in Brazil.
The United States of America decides not to send their athletes for the Olympic Game in Brazil if the Virus is still here. That means this epidemic may have serious world-wide consequences.
